Church of Stories Introduces Ensemble for New Audio Drama Series, ‘The Gold Coast Darlings’

Church of Stories, following its 2025 resounding debut, Goodbye, Gold Coast, has officially unveiled a star-struck cast for another audio drama series, The Gold Coast Darlings. This six-part series transports the listener to 1956 Gold Coast, in the weeks leading up to the general elections, which served as a major plebiscite on independence. The series explores political intrigue, suspense, and the pulsating sounds of 1950s Accra.

Directed by Joewackle J. Kusi and co-written with Fui Can-Tamakloe, The Gold Coast Darlings breathes new life into Ghana’s heritage, honouring the pioneers of highlife music whilst showing the depth of Ghanaian scriptwriting. The series is a unique blend of acting and musical talents, featuring a creative trifecta starring musical powerhouse Adomaa, veteran actress Edinam Atatsi, and highlife sensation Ayisi. The cast is completed by Jasmine Baroudi, Kojo Boakye, Solomon Fixon-Owoo, Timothy Banks, John Abeiku Sagoe, Gina Castel, Jessica Larny, Chiderah David, OB Black, Kwaku Sakyi, Mark Cofie Jnr., Mark Cofie Jnr., Miss Lankai, Sɛkyerewaa, and Joojo Addison.

The story is centred on Sika – a young, gifted singer – who is swayed by charismatic band manager Bombay to abandon Sunyani for the capital city, Accra, in pursuit of stardom. When Sika acts contrary to the law, two ambitious Crown agents, Eoin and Victoria, milk the situation to create chaos for The Widow: the leader of the female band, The Gold Coast Darlings. Fuelled by revenge, The Widow seeks to get back at Gold Coast’s political elites.

This series is a symbolic homage to our history as Ghana celebrates a century of highlife music. Church of Stories is rewriting the narrative of how we preserve our heritage through modern audio storytelling, and this announcement marks a major buildup to the highly anticipated series. Feel free to listen to Goodbye, Gold Coast on Spotify or Apple Podcasts as you wait for The Gold Coast Darlings to be aired.
