Krystle Zara Appiah Makes 2026 Morland African Writing Scholarships Shortlist

Ghana’s Krystle Zara Appiah has been shortlisted for the 2026 Morland African Writing Scholarships, earning a place among 20 writers selected from more than 600 entries across Africa.

Appiah is the only writer listed under Ghana in this year’s shortlist, which features authors from nine African countries.

Nigeria leads the shortlist with seven writers, followed by South Africa with five. Uganda has two representatives, while Ghana, Egypt, Mauritius, Zambia, Botswana and Zimbabwe each have one.

The foundation described the selection process as highly competitive, noting the high standard of submissions received this year. The 20 shortlisted writers will now await the final decision of the judging panel, which is scheduled to select four winners on November 19. The successful candidates will be announced on November 20, 2026.

The Morland African Writing Scholarships provide an opportunity for African writers to advance their literary projects. The programme attracts submissions from across the continent, offering recognition to writers whose work stands out through the foundation’s literary assessment process.

Krystle Zara Appiah is a British-Ghanaian writer, editor, and screenwriter, born and raised in London. She has a degree in literature and creative writing from the University of Kent.
