Among 100 recipients worldwide, four Ghanaian creatives, Neal Davids, Timtooni, Baaba J and Menenaba, have been named among the awardees of the Prince Claus Fund Seed Awards, earning €5,000 each to support their artistic work and cultural projects.
The awards recognise emerging artists and cultural practitioners whose work contributes to social and cultural change, giving them financial support to develop their ideas and expand their creative practice.
Neal Davids explores identity, memory and self-expression through visual art, fashion and textiles. His work incorporates discarded garments and performance, using creative experimentation to examine personal and collective experiences.
Timtooni, who is based in Tamale, is committed to telling stories from Northern Ghana through film and community-based cinema. His work includes Northflix, an initiative that provides a platform for local filmmakers and helps bring cinema to wider audiences.
Musician and songwriter Baaba J blends Ga and English in her alternative Afro-folk and indie sound. Her music explores themes including self-love, gender equality and queer visibility, reflecting her interest in using artistic expression to address social issues.
Menenaba, a writer, curator and cultural historian, focuses on photography, memory and Ghanaian social history. Their work explores how images can preserve community experiences and document the lives and histories of people whose stories might otherwise go unrecorded.
Congratulations to them.
