The Spirit of Kente is inspired by the transformative power of sustainability and the enduring cultural heritage of Ghana. Created using discarded materials recovered from landfill waste, the artwork demonstrates how materials often regarded as worthless can be transformed into something meaningful, reminding us that every object has the potential for a second life. It embodies the message: ‘Recycle today. Protect tomorrow. Every can counts.’
Through The Spirit of Kente, I invite viewers to reflect on the relationship between culture and the environment. I hope the work encourages people to see waste not as an end, but as the beginning of new possibilities. It is also an invitation to take pride in African heritage and to recognise that our cultural traditions can inspire innovative and sustainable ways of thinking.
