Ghanaian actor William Lamptey has won the third edition of the Africa Monologue Challenge (AMC), competing against actors from across Africa and the diaspora.
This year’s competition was hosted in Ghana, with the finalists spending time together as part of the programme’s Pan-African residency. The residency included performances, cultural activities, masterclasses and conversations focused on African identity, unity and the continent’s shared future.
Lamptey is an established Ghanaian actor, best known for playing Flex in the popular television series YOLO. He has also appeared in the short film Gem, DStv’s RSM on Akwaaba Magic and a number of theatre productions at Ghana’s National Theatre.
His recent credits include the feature film The Fisherman, which premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival. He has also received recognition at the Ghana Comedy Awards and the Ghana Movie Awards.
The Season 3 final brought together performers from Ghana, Benin, Cameroon, the Republic of Congo, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, the United States, Côte d’Ivoire, Zambia and Botswana.
They were judged by a nine-member panel made up of professionals from across the African and international film industries. The jury included South African casting director Christa Schamberger-Young, Senegalese filmmaker and casting director Iman Djionne, Ghanaian-American producer Dorina Amina Abubakar, Ugandan film executive Dr. Jesca Ahimbisibwe, German filmmaker York-Fabian Raabe, Kenyan actor and casting director Gerald Langiri, Ghanaian casting director Mawuko Kuadzi, Nigerian filmmaker Phil Efe Benard, and Zambian actor and artist Jeromy Mumba.
The competition is organised as a Pan-African cultural diplomacy and storytelling initiative, using performance to encourage cultural exchange and conversations across African borders.
