Ghanaian Writer-Director Andrews Owusu Appiah-Kubi to Stage New Play in Aberdeen

Andrews Owusu Appiah-Kubi (Mkay Ahndie), a Ghanaian writer and director is set to bring his latest stage play, Fallen (Not All Dreams Are Dared), to Aberdeen Arts Centre on 16 October 2026 at 5:30 pm.

The play tells the story of Agyakoma, a woman who marries her long-loved boyfriend, Owura, only to discover that marriage comes with expectations and rules that demand significant sacrifices from her. Having given so much to make the relationship work, Agyakoma begins to question whether her sacrifices have been worthwhile. As the marriage starts to unravel, secrets emerge, threatening to bring everything down.

According to Ahndie, Fallen is another opportunity to bring Ghanaian and contemporary African storytelling to an Aberdeen audience, while exploring social issues that resonate both within African communities and beyond.

The Ghanaian writer-director has developed a body of work centred on social justice and advocacy, with particular interest in gender inequality, structural inequalities and mental health. His previous productions include Fallen (2022), staged at KNUST, Tomorrow (2020), also at KNUST, and To Life, God! (2022), staged at Central Baptist Church in Kumasi.

Ahndie's connection to theatre also extends to Ghana's national Beyond the Return 2020 campaign, for which he wrote the theatrical play Beyond the Return 2020, staged at the National Theatre of Ghana.

Now based in Aberdeen, Ahndie holds a Master of Letters in Creative Writing from the University of Aberdeen. His creative work also spans poetry and digital storytelling. He is the creator and co-host of the African diaspora podcast, while his poetry collection A Charcoal's Mystery is available through Selar and Amazon Kindle. His poem Ampe was featured in The Hummingbird's Journal, Issue 3, in August 2026.

The cast includes Adjoa Oforiwaa Adoo as Agyakoma, Alavi Kwesi Isaac as Owura, Christabel Amponsah as Mrs Obiribea, Elsie Agyeiwaa Dankwah as Regina, Michael Agyare as Barima, and Frederick Asiedu Twum as Atongo.

The creative team is led by Ahndie, with Mrs Clara Owusu Appiah-Kubi as Production Manager, Richlove Oware-Coffie as Stage Manager, Jessica Amanor as Production Designer, Mrs Ethel Osei-Wusu as Costume Head, Stephen Todzi as Sound Manager, Thomas Yeboah as Light Technician and Abdul Fatawu Dawuda as Music Head.
